This comprehensive training is a state-mandated requirement for those looking to become armed security guards in New York. Combining classroom instruction with live range training, this course prepares you for real-world security situations.
This course needs a minimum of 8 students in order to start.
Student Brings:
Pistol, semi-auto or revolver (.38 or higher for revolvers). Calibers accepted: .9mm, 40, and 45. 22s, 380s and smaller calibers are not permitted.
Ear and eye protection
Duty holster and duty belt. Holster must be made of a Kydex material. No cloth or leather.
20 boxes of FMJ ammunition. Please call our office before purchasing ammunition: 716-622-7168.
Three 10-round magazines. If you have 8-round mags, bring at least 5.

This is an 8-hour course required by New York State as the first step in obtaining a security guard registration card from the New York State Department of State. The course provides the student with a general overview of the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Topics covered in this course include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, and ethics and conduct. The passing of an examination is required for successful completion of this course.
An introductory course that must be completed before applying for a security guard registration card
Includes an exam that consists of multiple-choice and true or false questions
Upon passing, a certificate of completion is issued
This foundational course must be completed within 90 days of employment and is designed to equip new security guards with the skills needed to protect people and property effectively.

Course Breakdown:
Classroom Training (3 Hours): Legal use of force and deadly physical force
Range Training (5 Hours): Practical firearm training and handgun qualification
Final Written Exam: Covers use of force laws and firearm safety

Eligibility Requirements:
Valid NYS pistol license
Valid NYS security guard registration card
This 8-hour course is developed by the security guard training school and must be completed to maintain and renew a security guard registration card. The course is structured to provide the student with updated and enhanced information on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. The eight-hour annual in-service course is comprised of 8 hours of instruction that may include 2 hours of security related elective topics. A security guard must complete two annual in-service courses in their two-year registration period.
Must be completed annually within 12 months of completing the 16-hour On-the-Job Training Course
Mandatory for security license renewal
Must be completed and on file with the Department of Licensing office before submitting a renewal application
